Q. Where are the bound journals?

The library's journals and magazines ("periodicals") are separated into current issues and bound volumes and shelved in different places on the 2nd floor. Both current issues and the bound volumes are shelved in Library of Congress call number order and you will need to look the call number up in the catalog to find the title you are looking for. Current issues do not circulate. Bound volumes circulate to faculty for one week only.

Journals and magazines may be published monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, etc. Often the volume year starts in January and ends in December. However, this is not always the case. For example, journals in education sometimes start in September of one year and end in June of the next year (concurrent with the school year). The issues for a given year make up a volume. Technical Services staff members regularly gather up all the loose issues of a journal at the end of its volume year and send them to a bindery to be bound. If you do not find a recent issue that you are looking for, please check the location status in the catalog to see if the issue you want has been sent to the bindery.
