This historic organization’s goal is to support the St. John’s Cemetery, Inc. in restoring and improving one of Pensacola’s oldest cemeteries, through the establishment of an endowment fund and by sponsoring events to help educate the public about this important historical resource.

On its website, the group offers a wealth of information about the many persons and families buried in the cemetery, information which documents the tremendous contributions these people made to the development of Pensacola during its growth since the Civil War era.  Friends of St. John’s Cemetery also holds monthly meetings and produces a newsletter, The Spirit of St. John, to seek new members, discuss progress, and plan events.  The group has recently begun renovations of the gatehouse at the cemetery for a future research, educational center and museum.

Friends of St. John’s Cemetery maintains a collection of photographs from the late 1800s through to the present, many of which can be seen on the website.  The photos illustrate past lives as well as recent events, and represent businessmen, doctors, lawyers, writers, military men and women, entrepreneurs, political figures, industry leaders, and others who are buried in the over 10,000 graves in St. John’s Cemetery.

Anyone interested in these photographs, as well as more information about St. John’s Cemetery, is welcome to call or make an appointment at the above number.
