Established as a mission in 1821, The First United Methodist Church in Pensacola has grown over the decades to become a valuable part of the city’s heritage.  From 1870 through 1880, the original church located on the corner of Intendencia and Tarragona Streets suffered through two fires and an epidemic of yellow fever.  The church moved to Palafox and Garden Streets and lost its pastor, Reverend C.B. DuBose, to a second yellow fever epidemic in 1882.

In 1908, construction began on the Wright Street building.   Services were held in Hannah Hall on Romana Street, and later in the basement of the church until it was completed in 1910. The first services were held on October 30, 1910.

Today, the First United Methodist Church is a vital part of one of Pensacola’s oldest areas, North Hill, both spiritually and historically, and it maintains archives with a variety of resources available to the public.
