What is the Pensacola History and Archaeology Council?
The Pensacola History and Archaeology Council represents a consortium of not-for-profit public organizations
concerned with the preservation and promotion of Pensacola's historical resources.
The Pensacola History and Archaeology Council:
- Is the community's voice for the preservation and wise management of Pensacola's historic resources and artifacts;
- Supports the development of educational opportunities in history, archaeology, research, preservation, and collections;
- Shares information about and, where possible, coordinates efforts of member organizations in the areas of:
a. Research Archaeology
b. Resource Management Collections
c. Preservation Special Events
d. Promotion Tourism; and
- Assists member organizations and other community groups to acquire grant or other funds for historical projects.
The PHAC does not define historic resources in terms of geographic boundaries, but rather as any district, artifact, building,
or collection important in the history of Pensacola.
Vision:
The Pensacola History and Archaeology Council's vision calls for
Pensacola's historical sites and heritage to be identified, explored,
preserved, protected and managed for the benefit of this and future
generations of residents and visitors. To achieve this vision, PHAC member
organizations must work in collaboration with the City of Pensacola,
Escambia County, Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce, University of West
Florida, and other community organizations.
