Books

Library materials may be identified in the Libraries' Online Catalog by using author, title, keyword, and subject searches. Books on nursing are primarily located in the RT call number area on the third floor. Other subjects and corresponding call numbers are:

Databases

Databases provide access to journal articles and other publications on nursing. Many journals are available full text or in paper form in our library. To locate journal articles, use the CitationLinker, SFX to search for a specific article, book or journal. SFX will lead you to the online or print source of the title. If we do not own, or have access to, a journal you need, you may request it from Interlibrary Loan. If you are unsure about the quality of the journals you are finding, consult the online tutorial, Scholarly Journals vs. Popular Magazines.
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts
This database service provides access to over 70 Cambridge Scientific databases arranged under 10 broad categories. Searches may be conducted by database categories, or within selected databases. The database categories include: Agricultural Sciences, Aquatic Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Computer Technology, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Engineering Specialties, Materials Science, Market Research, and the Social Sciences. Some citations link to full-text journal articles provided by  Science Direct  or  Kluwer.
CINAHL. 1982+  (EBSCOhost)
An index to over 300 major journals as well as books and dissertations in nursing. Published 1956-1976 as a printed index entitled Cumulative Index to Nursing Literature, and 1977- as Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, these titles are available 1956-1997 in the Reference collection (Ref. RT 1 C8).
Expanded Academic Index.. 1982+  (InfoTrac)
A general interest index to nearly 1,000 multi-disciplinary journals. A good source for recent articles on topics related to health and nursing. Includes some full-text articles
Health and Wellness Resource Center  (InfoTrac)
Includes information from the folowing sub-files "Medical Encyclopedia," "Drug and Herb Finder," "Health Assessment Tools," "Health Organization Directory," "Medical Dictionary," "Links to Other Sites," and "Health News."
MEDLINE. 1993+  (Cambridge),  MEDLINE. 1965+  (FirstSearch),  MEDLINE. 1966+  (National Library of Medicine),  and  MEDLINEplus Health Information  (NLM)
A comprehensive index to approximately 3,000 medical and health periodicals which corresponds to the printed Index Medicus (Periodicals R 5 C8) and covers all aspects of health and sports medicine. MEDLINEplus Health Information includes access to additional medical reference works, including a medical encyclopedia, drug information, clinical trials information, current health news, and directories of doctors, hospitals and dentists.
PubChem
PubChem provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. PubChem is comprised of three linked databases that allow keyword and name searches for chemical structures, chemical substance records, and bioassay records.
ScienceDirect (Elsevier).
A comprehensive electronic collection of scholarly science, technology and medicine full text and bibliographic information.

Wiley Interscience.
Wiley Interscience includes full text coverage of journals, reference works, and online books in all areas of science.
Wilson Science Complete.
Wilson Science Complete is the online version of the General Science Index, Biological and Agricultural Index, and the Applied Science and Technology Index.

A dictionary for health care professionals which emphasizes new terms in the field. Includes color and black-and-white illustrations.


Stedman's Medical Dictionary for the Health Professions and Nursing. 2005. (Ref. R 121 S8 2005)
Concise definitions of medical terminology with sections of color illustrations.

Encyclopedia of Nursing Research. 1998. (Ref. RT 81.5 E53 1998)
An authoritative guide to the study of nursing. Includes a list of nursing research journals, national professional organizations, and government agencies involved in nursing research.


Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health. 5 vols. 2002.(Ref. RT 21 G353 2002)
This multi-volume work contains over 850 essays on specific diseases, disorders, tests and procedures, equipment and tools, body systems, nursing and allied health professions, and current health issues.


Historical Encyclopedia of Nursing. 1999. (Ref. RT 31 S66 1999)
Backgrounds and careers of notable nurses are presented in this encyclopedia which also includes surveys of nursing care during various periods of history and healing methods of various ethnic groups.

Mosby's Pediatric Nursing Reference. 2000. (Ref. RJ 245 B47 2000)
A concise guide for nurses and nursing students who care for children and their families.


New Harvard Guide to Women's Health. 2004. (Ref. RA 778 C2164 2004)
An alphabetically arranged guide to women's health issues, symptoms, diseases, and treatments.


Nurse Practitioner's Legal Reference. 2001. (Ref. RT 82.8 N8646 2001)
Legal and ethical aspects of nursing are addressed in this handy guide. Overviews of laws, legal responsibilities, and liabilities related to nursing are provided.
