Databases
Databases index journal articles, books, conference proceedings,
reports, and other materials. Databases may be searched
individually or in
categorized groups via Metalib. If you are searching for a journal title, look it up in the Online Catalog or the CitationLinker, SFX. If we do not own, or have access to, a journal you need, you may request it from Interlibrary Loan. If you are unsure about the quality of the journals you are using, consult the online tutorial, Scholarly Journals vs. Popular Magazines.

- A monthly index by broad subject topics to the books, documents, pamphlets and
periodicals which are acquired by the library of the American Geographic Society.

information on geographic entities of the world

- A computerized index to the worldwide literature of geography, geology,
ecology and related disciplines

- This database indexes more than 4,000 international journals in the earth sciences.

- LEXIS-NEXIS
- This wide-ranging service includes a file entitled Country Profiles and another
file entitled State Profiles. Both of these sources provide extensive information for
the geographic researcher.

The "Atlas Reference Section" in the Reference
Department on the first floor contains a collection of approximately 500 atlases
covering a wide array of geographical areas and subjects. To identify an atlas on
a particular subject use a keyword search combining the term with the word
"atlas" or "maps".
