Databases
Databases index journal articles, books, conference proceedings,
reports, and other materials. Databases may be searched
individually or in
categorized groups via Metalib. If you are searching for a journal title, look it up in the Online Catalog or the CitationLinker, SFX. If we do not own, or have access to, a journal you need, you may request it from Interlibrary Loan. If you are
unsure about the quality of the journals you are using, consult the online
tutorial, Scholarly Journals vs. Popular Magazines.
The most frequently used maritime studies databases are:
- America History and Life. 1964+ (ABC-CLIO)
- An online index to over 2,000 journals published worldwide that deal with the
history of the United States and Canada. Entries include extensive abstracts.
Book and media reviews from over one hundred journals are included.
- Anthropology Plus. 1900+ (Eureka)
- This database is a combination of Anthropological Literature from
Harvard University and Anthropological Index from the Royal Anthropological
Institute. It provides worldwide indexing of journal articles, reports, commentaries,
edited works, and obituaries in the fields of anthropology and archaeology.

a condensed version of BIOSIS and provides indexing to 375 core life science
journals and is updated weekly. Explanations of abbreviations of serial titles
used in these indexes may be found in BIOSIS Serials Sources (Ref. Desk
QH 301 S585). A current list of journals indexed in BIOSIS may be found at
http://www.biosis.org/products_services/bplist.html.
