Access to Library Resources

As a graduate MBA student, you are provided with access to the library catalog, online databases, and other library services. To access databases and library services from remote locations (outside the library building), you are required to have either an Argonet Account, UWF Nautilus Card, or a Library Access Number:

Databases

Databases identify journal articles, books, conference proceedings, reports, and other materials by subject, keyword, and other search options. Databases may be searched individually or by category in Metalib.

The following databases provide business information and articles:

Factiva
Formerly Dow Jones Interactive, Factiva is an excellent source of company and industry information as well as general business news. Factiva contains full text files of hundreds of business journals, including the Wall Street Journal.

Gale Business and Company Resource Center
Search by company name for financial information, articles, rankings, industry reports, investment reports, histories, and trade associations. Access to the following reference sources is provided in Gale Business and Company Resource Center


Gale's Ready Reference Shelf
This database allows the searcher to identify databases, publications, associations and research centers that relate to a subject.

Investext Plus (InfoTrac)
This massive collection of investment and market research reports is useful in analyzing companies and industries.


Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
Business publications, legal sources, and newspapers are searchable in this full text database. Congressional Universe and Statistical Universe are two other Lexis-Nexis products which offer full text legislative and statistical information.


Mergent Online
Fifteen years of company financial reports andthirty years of equity pricing for publicly held U.S. and international companies are provided in Mergent (formerly Moody's) Online.


National Trade Data Bank (STAT-USA)
A comprehensive database from the U.S. Department of Commerce providing economic and statistical information on U.S. and international trade.


Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage
Major investment publications of Standard and Poor's (i.e., Industry Surveys). Current investment and financial data are available from this source for companies as well.


ProQuest
ProQuest provides access to news and journal articles in the following full text databases in business:   ABI/Inform Global  1971+,  ABI Inform DatelineABI/Inform Trade & IndustryHoover's Company Information  2000+, and  Wall Street Journal  1984+. 


RDS
This databank includes Business and Industry  1994+ and  TableBase (statistical industry reports).


ValueLine
Objective investment research tool for large and mid-cap U.S. companies. Company and industry reports, stock and mutual fund screening and tracking.

Almanac of American Employers. 2003. NetLibrary
Profiles of 500 companies with significant growth patterns described in this almanac. See also:  Plunkett"s Companion to the Almanac of American Employers: Mid-size Firms NetLibrary).


North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). 1998- http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html
Describes and indexes NAICS codes, which the government assigns to all products and services in the economy.

 
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual. 1987.  http://www.osha.gov/oshstats/sicser.html
Provides the SIC codes useful in searching databases by industry or product. This code is being replaced by the NAICS code but is still used in many databases.


Thomas Register of American Manufacturers. Annual. http://www.thomasregister.com
Manufacturing companies and their products are identified in this directory.


World Chamber of Commerce Directory. Annual. (Ref. Desk HF 294 W75)
Lists U.S. Chambers of Commerce by state and also includes foreign Chambers of Commerce and embassies. See also, the Chamber of Commerce (U.S.) site at http://www.uschamber.org and World Chambers Network http://www.worldchambers.com.

National Compensation Survey. U.S. Department of Labor http://www.bls.gov/ncs/ocs/compub.htm#National.


Economic Indicators. Monthly. GPO Monthly
Statistical tables and charts are provided for the basic U.S. economic indicators. These indicators provide data on total output, income and spending; employment, unemployment and wages; production and business activity; prices; money, credit and security markets; and federal finance. Statistics in each issue are usually quoted annually for about 6 years and monthly for the past year.

This series of pamphlets provides employment data for major cities in Florida, including Pensacola.


Handbook of U.S. Labor Statistics. 2004. NetLibrary
A one volume compendium of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which includes historical data when available. The Bureau also provides labor statistics on their web site:  http://www.bls.gov.
