- Arranged alphabetically, this work provides articles on approximately 1,100 black performing artists in film, television, radio, theatre, dance, and musical performance. Most, but not all, performers covered are American and contemporary.

- Arranged alphabetically, this work "approaches the medium [of film] by charting, chronologically and critically, the careers of the directors central to any serious study of cinema." The book consists of 200 main entries, each of which contain factual information about the director, a general critique of the director's work, a listing of directors who influenced or were influenced by the director, a selection of recommended readings, and an outline of the director's films.

- This work provides essays of several pages each on over 100 performers who have been successful as both singers and film stars, such as Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Gene Kelly, Cher, and Johnny Cash, alongside other lesser known individuals. Following a summary of the person's work are lists of films, TV series, radio series, Broadway plays, album discography with which the individual has been associated. The work also includes selected black and white photographs and concludes with general, song, and album indexes.

- This extensive work provides lengthy articles "intended to represent the current concerns of North American, British, and West European film scholarship and criticism." Separate volumes cover films, directors, actors and actresses, and writers and production artists. "Each entry provides full credits for the film, a comprehensive bibliography, and an expository essay from a specialist in the field." Black and white illustrations and photos complement selected entries.

- Arranged into 13 categories such as directors, editors, writers, and producers, this work provides an overview of each category before presenting articles of 4 to 10 pages each for various women working in the film industry between 1896 to the present. - This work provides brief biographical sketches of thousands of individuals in the film industry covering the 1920s through the early 1980s. The entries are complemented by abundant color and black and white images.
- Working Women on the Hollywood Screen: A Filmography. 1989. (Ref. PN 1995.9 .W6 G34 1989)
- This filmography lists nearly 4,500 "American feature films released between 1930 and 1975, in which the leading female role is that of a working woman." The films are arranged into occupations such as stewardess, social worker, athlete, gambler, librarian, and many others. Each entry provides the name of the film, its leading actress, the year of its release, its director, and the studio which produced it. Selected entries are annotated, but most are not. Actress and movie indexes conclude the work.

- This work provides reviews of American as well as foreign films by reprinting the entire, original text of reviews previously published in Variety. Reviews are published in chronological order, by the date on which the original review appeared. Most entries also contain general information about the film and its cast and characters. Readers may use the index to identify reviews of particular films.

To locate journals by title within our Library Catalog, select the Basic Search mode from the JOURNALS/SERIALS CATALOG option. Type the beginning of the journal title (omit initial articles). For a partial list of journals by a given topic, go to Basic Search, and do a subject keyword search within the SERIALS/JOURNALS catalog. Type your keyword(s) in the main communication box, and select the Subject Keyword(s) option from the drop down menu. For example, if you type the keyword 'motion pictures' you will retrieve over fifty titles including: Film & History, Entertainment Design, Entertainment Weekly, Screen, etc.
