Submitting Materials for Reserve

Submit a Course Reserve Request Form online or complete a paper form at the Circulation Desk.

Allow 3-5 days processing time for print materials and 5-7 days for electronic materials. Processing time may be longer during the first week of the semester. Early submission of materials is greatly appreciated.

Submitting Materials for eLearning

We encourage faculty to consider placing class materials such as syllabi, notes, exams, reviews, and articles on Desire2Learn, the University's classroom management system.

If you are teaching an e-learning course or use an e-learning component to supplement your class, you may request electronic reserves directly from your course module. We will insert your e-reserves for you, and they will appear at the bottom of your “Content” page.

For assistance with Desire2Learn e-reserves, contact via e-mail to bmcgowan@uwf.edu or sfarry@uwf.edu or by telephone at 474-2469.

Submission Guidelines

Books, chapters of books, copies of journal articles, government documents, and visual and audio materials may be placed on course reserve.

Faculty owned or faculty supplied materials may be submitted to the circulation staff electronically or in print format. Please provide clear and legible copies with complete citations.

Library staff will retrieve library-owned items (complete citations are necessary for this service).

Materials not owned by the faculty member or the library may be acquired through the interlibrary loan service. Interlibrary loan service may be initiated by either the faculty member or the library staff. Please allow at least two weeks for interlibrary loan service.

Copyright Information

In compliance with copyright law and the doctrine of fair use, the library staff assesses the need for copyright compliance and applies the following guidelines for electronic reserve materials:

1. Copyright permission is not necessary for exams, syllabi, lecture notes, public domain materials or government documents, publications over 75 years old, works without a copyright symbol that were published before 1978, materials used for one semester, or materials that are copyrighted under the instructor's name.

2. Copyright permission is necessary for a journal article or book chapter that will be placed on reserve for more than one semester. It is also required for multiple chapters from a single book or multiple articles from a single journal. Entire books may not be copied.

At the End of the Semester

At the end of the semester, you will receive an email notification asking you whether or not you would like to retain the materials on course reserve (copyright laws permitting). If you do not respond within 1 month, your personal items will be returned to you, library materials will be returned to the stacks, and e-reserves will not show up on our website.

To view a list of your current reserve materials, visit our Course Reserve Catalog and search by your last name.
