Library Information for Faculty
Administrative Documents
While many UWF governance and administrative documents are located in Special Collections,
current documents including the UWF operating budget, faculty evaluations, and strategic plans
are available at the Reserve Desk of the John C. Pace Library, 1st Floor.
Faculty may select materials for the library collection by submitting orders through the academic department's library representative.
Requestors may submit order forms or clearly marked printed bibliographies or
publishers' catalogs. Please supply complete bibliographic information in addition to your name and academic department on each request.

Borrowing Privileges
UWF faculty are permitted to check out up to 100 circulating library materials from the John C. Pace Library for 6 months
with 1 renewal.
Bound journals may be checked out for one week and current issues of journals may
be checked out overnight. In addition, videos may be checked out for 2 weeks. For additional information, contact

Faculty have the same borrowing privileges in the Emerald Coast Campus Library, except for the number (6 books at a time). Books
borrowed from either campus library may be renewed in or returned to the Emerald Coast Campus Library or to the John C. Pace Library. |

Computer Workstations
Computer workstations are provided for all visitors to the UWF Libraries.
Workstations and network printers are available in the library. Internet access and production software are available on the computers. For
additional information, contact the Pace Library Reference Desk or the Computer Help Desk.
The Special Needs Room on the first floor of the John C. Pace Library is equipped with computers and equipment for patrons with
special needs. Additional services for these patrons are provided by the Pace Library's Reference
and Circulation staff.
Services available to the distance learning student include:
- on-site borrowing at the UWF, any of the other nine State University libraries (SUL), and Florida Community College libraries;
- remote access to online electronic resources, tutorials, and the research guides;
- Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Services (for items not owned by UWF);
- Intercampus Loan for Books/Journal articles (for items owned by UWF);
- reference assistance;
- online book renewal;
- rush cataloging;
- recall of items that are currently on loan to others.
- Students enrolled in distance learning classes should be encouraged to request a library access card if they are not planning to purchase a Nautilus Card
Equipment may be checked out at the John C. Pace Library Circulation Desk for
UWF related business (on or off campus). On-site and telephone support for classroom technology is provided by
the ITS Help Desk at 474-2075; on the Emerald Coast Campus,
this support is provided by ITS personnel in Building 7 at (850) 863-6738. Available equipment includes laptops, overhead projectors,
VCRs, slide projectors, camcorders, tape recorders, easels, portable screens, and LCD projectors. Reserve
equipment online, by telephone or in person
at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of the Pace Library. On the Emerald Coast Campus, AV equipment may be reserved by calling
the AV office at (850) 863-6520.
Faculty Publications
We actively collect books written by, edited by, or contributed to by UWF faculty.
We normally acquire two copies – one for the circulating collection and one for the
permanent faculty collection in Special Collections. We are grateful for any free copies
faculty can donate, or you can notify us and the Library will order copies. Contact

There is also a rotating display of faculty publications on the first floor of the John C. Pace Library

Gifts
The Library welcomes gifts of books and journals and they are evaluated following the guidelines in
the Library's Collection Development Policy. Duplicates or other books we cannot use are normally kept
for our next annual book sale. For more information, contact Dan North, dnorth@uwf.edu, in

John C. Pace Library's regular hours are:

Hours are extended until midnight during dead week and finals. The library is closed during scheduled holidays and on weekends during

Intercampus loan provides access to those UWF owned materials not
currently available at the requestor's primary library,
whether it is the John C. Pace Library, the Emerald Coast Library, or the Curriculum Library. Requests may be
submitted online or at the circulation desk at either library. For

Faculty are provided access to materials not owned by the University of West Florida Libraries.
Allow at least two weeks processing and delivery; charges may be applicable.
Requests may be submitted online, or by using the "ILL" command
in the online catalogs or databases. Copyright compliance may limit the library's ability to
fill your order. All orders are processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Contact the Coordinator of Interlibrary Loan Services,

Laptop Checkout

The John C. Pace Library has laptop computers available for checkout to faculty, students and staff of UWF. The computers are
restricted to library use for 6 hours. Data ports are located in designated areas of the second, third, and fourth floors, as well as
in the talk study rooms, several day carrels, and semester carrels. Wireless connectivity is available. Contact
the Circulation Department for more information. |
Libraries & Collections
- The John C. Pace Library (Building 32) is the main library for the Pensacola Campus
and provides support services for other UWF libraries. Key phone numbers for the Pace Library include: Reference (850) 474-2424, Circulation &
Reserves (850) 474-2414, and Serials (850) 474-2461. Other departmental phone numbers may be found at library departments
- The Curriculum Library (850) 474-2438, located in Building 86 (College of Professional Studies),
supports the University’s Teacher Education program by providing a representative collection of pre-school through high school instructional resources.
- The Emerald Coast Campus Library (850) 863-6578 provides students and faculty with
access to information in support of courses taught on the branch campus. the Library serves as an access point to the holdings of the parent campuses of
the University of West Florida and Okaloosa-Walton Community College.
- The Documents Collection, located on the 1st floor of the Library contains publications of
the federal, state, and local governments. UWF is a partial depository for federal documents published by the Government Printing Office. Documents
assistance is provided at the Reference Desk, ext. 2424.
- The Music Library (850-474-2147) located in Building 82, Room 210, supports the Department of Music
and provides a quality collection of music resources. The collection includes CDs, cassettes, records, and a limited selection of music reference materials.
Music scores are now housed in the main library.
- The Special Collections Department (ext. 2213), located in the basement of the main library,
is the largest West Florida research collection in existence and a major repository dealing with Florida and the Gulf Coast region. The Special Collections staff
acquires, preserves, catalogs, and provides reference services to research materials which document the history and development of Pensacola and the West Florida
region (ten counties of the Florida Panhandle, between the Perdido and Apalachicola Rivers) from earliest settlement to the present time. The Department is also
the University Archives for the University of West Florida and the repository for the library’s rare and unique books.
Library Fines
Faculty are not charged late fines for overdue items, however, replacement costs are charged for lost library materials. (The
current cost to replace most library materials is $51.15. If it is more economical, the patron may
purchase a copy of the same-or newer-edition of the item and present it to the library.) For more information, contact the John C. Pace Library Circulation Department.
Faculty may request a reference subject specialist to provide a subject area orientation for a
class. To schedule a class on the Pensacola campus, please contact the Reference Department. On the Emerald Coast Campus,

or in-classroom training in library skills, research, and data retrieval techniques. Typical session formats include:

Library materials may be identified by using the library's, online catalog. Subject, author, title, and keyword searching are among the ways to access
the libraries' collections. |

Faculty may request that items identified in the online catalog as "in process"
or "on order" be given priority for faster availability. Requests may be submitted online from the library catalog. For more

Faculty may request that items identified in the catalog as "checked out" be recalled for
their use. Requests may be submitted online via the catalog. For more information, contact the Circulation Department.
Reference staff provide library patrons with user education, research assistance,
consultation, and numerous guides to the many print and electronic resources available. Materials housed
in the reference collection are to be used in the library. Assistance is available at the Reference Desk on the 1st floor
of the John C. Pace Library or questions may be submitted online by completing the Ask-A-Librarian
form. Reference assistance is also provided in the Curriculum, Special Collections, and Emerald Coast Campus Library.
The UWF Library Web Pages provide centralized links to library information and electronic
databases and services. Remote access is provided to databases from off
campus. Simply click on "Accessing from Off-Campus" at the bottom
left of the library's home page. If you are off campus, you will be prompted
to enter the 14 digit library number found on your Nautilus Card or request a library access card. For more information, contact

Prior to the due date, many library materials may be renewed in the online catalog or in person at the Circulation Desk of our

Faculty members may place materials on electronic and/or print course reserve. Requests may be submitted
online, or in person at the Circulation
Desk located on the 1st floor of the John C. Pace Library. If you prefer to type into a form that you can print out and submit in person,
please use our Course Reserve Request Form.
Electronic reserve materials are scanned and saved as PDF or HTML files. Allow three days
to five days to process reserve materials. The library requests and pays for copyright clearance when appropriate.
Electronic reserve materials may also be requested via Desire2Learn, the online
learning management system (http://elearning.uwf.edu).

Software
Some software packages are available to faculty through university license agreements. Adobe, SASS, and SPSS may be checked out at the
John C. Pace Library Reserve Desk, 1st floor, for installation in offices at home and at work.
This software may also be checked out from the Emerald Coast Campus Library. Other software, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, is available
from Information Technology Services.
Study Carrels

Faculty may apply for semester study carrel privileges. Study carrels are
located on the third and fourth floors of the John C. Pace Library. Some carrels are equipped
with data ports, windows, and other special features. Carrels may be reserved
online, or in person at the
Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of the John C. Pace Library. |
Theses and Dissertations
One print copy (housed in Special Collections) and an electronic copy (accessible via the online catalog) of theses/dissertations
completed by UWF graduate students should be submitted to the Serials Department.
