Introduction

UWF Students studying in Serials Department

The staff at the second floor Periodicals Service Desk (850-474-2461) provides assistance with journals, periodicals, newspapers and microforms. In addition to helping you with holdings and location information for material in these formats, the staff can provide instruction in principal features of the UWF Library Catalog,

instruction in the use of photocopiers and microform reader/scanning machines. During business hours, staff can provide you with access to in-process materials (journals and periodicals which have been received but not yet cataloged, and items which have been prepared for a bindery shipment).

Accessing the Collection

Citations to journal articles can be found using the UWF Databases. Other indexes to journal articles may be found using the Subject Research Guides.

Once you've identified an article that you want, you verify whether we own it by looking up the title of the periodical in the UWF Library Catalog. Begin your search by clicking "Journals/Serials."

A directory of most of our Online Journals is also available.

Locations of Materials

Current periodicals and newspapers are shelved on the second floor to the left of the elevators. Consult the map for the exact location.

Back issues of periodicals are located on the second floor. These issues consist of bound periodicals and microforms. Consult the map for locations.

"At the Bindery"

A periodical is sent to the bindery when the volume is complete. This process takes approximately 4 weeks. The staff at the Periodicals Service Desk can tell you an estimated date when the periodical is due back from the bindery.
