Emerald Coast Campus Librarian


The University of West Florida invites applications and nominations for the position of Emerald Coast Campus Librarian. The University seeks an innovative, creative, enthusiastic, and collegial librarian to provide vision and strategic leadership for library services and programs for the Emerald Coast campus. The Emerald Coast Campus Librarian has management responsibility for the library on the Fort Walton Beach (FWB) campus shared with Okaloosa-Walton College (OWC). Principal responsibilities include: supervision and management of library personnel, services, collections and equipment located at the FWB location; provision of library services to UWF and OWC students at the FWB location; coordination of library services for academic programs offered at other Emerald Coast Campus sites and/or via distance/online education; and coordination of services with appropriate personnel at UWF campuses and partner institutions that currently include OWC at Niceville, Chipola College at Marianna, the Research Engineering Educational Facility (REEF), Eglin Air Force Base, and Hurlburt Air Force Base.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific responsibilities and duties include
  • Provides dynamic leadership and innovative approaches for library services to students and faculty at Emerald Coast Campus (ECC) sites
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff assigned to the ECC Library (2 FTE paraprofessional staff; 1.5 FTE student staff)
  • Provides and/or coordinates library public services; e.g., circulation, course reserves, interlibrary and intercampus loan, reference, information literacy, and library instruction for UWF and OWC students on the Fort Walton Beach and Combs campuses of the ECC
  • Provides and/or coordinates library instruction for UWF students at additional ECC sites
  • Supervises technical library services for the ECC Library, coordinating with the Pensacola campus as needed
  • Has collection development responsibilities in support of academic programs and courses offered through the ECC, consulting, as appropriate, with UWF faculty assigned to or teaching on Emerald Coast Campus sites
  • Plans, develops, recommends and implements library programs and services to meet immediate and long-term needs
  • Develops annual library goals and objectives as well as long-range plans
  • Conducts assessment of the ECC Library as related to library services, user satisfaction, and collection adequacy
  • Monitors the physical facility and technical equipment, reporting maintenance issues to appropriate personnel
  • Manages fiscal resources allocated to the ECC library
  • Creates research guides, tutorials, and other instructional resources in support of programs and courses taught on ECC sites
  • Promotes and markets library services and resources to ECC faculty and students
  • Provides statistical reports, annual reports and other relevant reports and/or studies related to ECC library issues
  • Participates in professional development activities
  • Participates in professional service activities such as state, university and library committees or in local, regional, or national professional organizations
QUALIFICATIONS: Required:
  • MLS, or equivalent, from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum of two years relevant professional library experience
  • Strong public services approach and vision
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Understanding of the potential of computer and information technology in the development of library services and programs
  • Awareness of current library-related technological trends
  • General knowledge of library management systems
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work well within a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Flexibility to respond to changing needs and to be proactive regarding emerging opportunities in program development
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of ACRL information literacy competencies
  • Familiarity with user evaluation techniques
  • Demonstrated initiative in program development
  • Strong project management skills
  • Mentoring leadership style that empowers others to excel
  • Basic skills with web page creation and maintenance
  • Experience with providing library services in support of distance and/or online education programs
  • Advanced degree

APPOINTMENT: This is a twelve month non-tenured track position with faculty rank and status. Appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Librarian rank, reporting to the Associate Library Director.


BENEFITS: Excellent benefits include 22 days vacation and 13 days sick leave annually, health insurance, state or optional retirement system, and no state or local income taxes. Minimum salary $45,000, commensurate with education and experience.
