Our Beginnings
The University of West Florida Libraries were formally established in September 1967 with opening of
the John C. Pace Library, which is named in honor of a former member of the Florida Board of Regents.
The Library Collections
Currently, the libraries hold 752,200 bound volumes, over 1,100,000 microforms, and 300,000 government documents. The library subscribes to over 5,100 print and electronic journals and provides access to thousands of online, full-text journals. The library also has an 926,000 item
collection of rare books and special material covering subjects especially pertinent to West Florida.
Library Staff
The libraries are staffed by 17 librarians and 30 technical assistants. Names,
addresses, and functions are available both by alphabet
and by department.
Services and operations are organized into departments consisting of Acquisitions, Administration,
Automation, Bookkeeping, Cataloging, Circulation, Reference/Interlibrary Loan/Government Documents,
Serials and Special Collections. There are two libraries in addition to the main library. A
Curriculum Materials Library is housed in the College of Education Complex to better serve those
students, and a full-service library is located on the Fort Walton Beach Campus to serve both the
students of UWF and the students of Okaloosa/Walton Community College (OWCC). |
